Burmeister Family Outreach

Purpose

Burmeister Family Outreach exists to share the love and message of Jesus Christ with those who do not know Jesus.  We have been carrying this out through prayer, service projects, missions trips, other outreach opportunities, and service in local churches.  By God’s grace our family plans are to continue in ministry to proclaim Jesus' name to the lost and train new believers in God's ways through the teaching of the Bible.

Calling - History

In 2017 we felt a strong conviction that God was calling us into something new, as the brevity of life on this earth rested heavily on our minds, and the Lord placed this scripture on our hearts:

Matthew 9:37-38 "Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest."

This verse and our hearts compelled us with an urgency to serve God with more of our time as a family.  Serving together as a family was and is a critical part of our ministry because it allows us to “train our children up in the way they should go” (Proverbs 22:6) and we have seen how God uses the simple love from our children to draw people to Him.

In 2019 we were blessed with the opportunity to join the Benedict family in doing outreach in the Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica for three months. The Benedicts have a fruitful ministry in which their whole family is involved in the different aspects of their mission: serving their community through leading worship in local churches and discipleship.  This trip really opened our eyes to the joy and power of serving the Lord together through sharing the gospel and serving others.  We returned from this trip with an overwhelming desire to continue to serve the Lord as a family.

The week after we returned from Costa Rica, in what we believe was “no coincidence”,  Michael and Emma Freed shared with us their desire to share Jesus' love in Eastern Europe.  This began a great adventure that led our team to start a community center in a small Muslim town in Eastern Europe in 2021.  At the community center we planned to serve the town through teaching art, music, engineering, math, English, and fun activities.  By God’s grace we overcame many hurdles and launched the community center in October 2021.  Throughout those first few months, we met many friends and grew close enough to some to share the gospel.  However, shortly after opening the community center, local opposition to our presence led to our team leaving the town for the safety of our families and new local friends.  Though it was painful leaving our new friends, we have joy and faith that God’s plan for their lives will be completed.

Philippians 1:6 "Being confident in this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus"

Direction - What’s Next

Since our time in Eastern Europe was cut short at the end of 2021 we have been praying and seeking the Lord for what is next…  It has been a special time of rest, fellowship, waiting, and preparation in which Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” has been a constant reminder to us to be patient.  Waiting is hard sometimes as His timing does not always line up with ours!  But the reward of walking in the Lord’s plans is worth it!  So we wait and lay all of our possible plans at His feet.

We have been praying about some exciting opportunities for outreach in Nicaragua, Croatia, Sri Lanka, and Tennessee.  Our near term plans include a scouting trip to Nicaragua in May and a trip in June to join our dear friends Vic and Shelly Murphy with Action Sports Outreach for ministry opportunities in Tennessee and the surrounding states.  Even though we don’t know exactly what the Lord has planned for us…or even where He will take us, we find our reassurance in John 10:27 as we pursue the Lord daily in prayer, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." As we seek the Lord and His plans for our family, we wait to hear his clear, still voice and move forward with great expectation for what the Lord has for us to do next.

Ephesians 2:1  "For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."

Get involved

We have been so honored and blessed to have many of you join us in prayer and financial support over the last year.  It has been extremely humbling, exciting, and overwhelming how the Lord has provided for all of our needs, often through you.  When we needed prayer, when we needed finances, when we needed a vehicle and a home, when we needed wise counsel, when we needed a good laugh…the Lord provided!  Praise Him!

As we go forward, we invite you to join us in prayer for the direction of this ministry and for the lost to come to know the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  We ask you to join us in praying for our dear friends in Eastern Europe, that God would grow an eternal harvest of people who know and love Jesus.  And we ask you to join us in prayer for those who we will meet next--the lost who the Lord loves…for their hearts to be prepared and open for the good news coming their way!
