Kulisha
Kulisha provides hot, nutritious lunchtime meals to the most needy students at Kisimu (Kenya) Boys High School. These boys--many of whom have lost one or both parents and who often come to school on an empty stomach--can't afford to buy lunch. Studies in Kenya have shown that offering mid day meals to students significantly improves attendance, concentration, and academic performance. By providing these meals Kulisha helps the boys succeed academically and break out of poverty. Take a look at their website at http://www.kulisha.org/
Beth Brummel, the founder and director of Kulisha, served as a research assistant on the Martin Luther King Papers Project at Stanford University, received her Masters of Science at the London School of Economics, worked as an administrator at the School of Education at Brighton University in England, and is currently completing a PhD in Linguistic Anthropology at the University of Chicago. Beth has lived for over a year total over the past few years in Kisumu (Kenya's third largest city) pursuing field research for her degree, and has established close relationships with students, teachers and administrators at Kisumu Boys High School. As a result, she's developed a passion to help these young men succeed in life by serving them in a most useful and practical way.
We're very pleased to serve Beth and her partners in Kenya through long term fiscal sponsorship, administrative services, and consulting.
