PHESA Foundation
PHESA Foundation will focus on teaching teens in L.A. area junior high schools and high schools critical life skills and attitudes including financial literacy, effective communication skills, stress management, environmental awareness and activism, healthy eating and exercise, and constructive involvement in their local communities. Current schools--and even many families--give these skills and attitudes little attention. As a result, too many young people are unprepared to succeed as adults.
PHESA staff and volunteers will work in partntership with area schools and educators and use a wide variety of innovative teaching techniques that emphasize hands on, experiential learning. The foundation is also developing a sophisticated online training and resource center that will allow them to do an even more effective job reaching young people.
Nina Irani, the founder and director of PHESA, studied theatre and communications at NYU and then founded "Uniquespeak,' a succesful corporate communications consulting firm specializing in teaching leaders in the corporate and educational worlds how to communicate more effectively. A number of her former clients are now partnering with her to develop PHESA.
Visions Made Viable provides Nina and her partners with fiscal sponsorship, administrative support, and consulting aimed at helping PHESA become an effective independent nonprofit organization.
