Beyond Bullies
"Beyond Bullies" (http://beyondbullies.org/) is an innovative project that seeks to reduce bullying behavior in high schools in the LA area. Project staff educate students, teachers and administrators about bullying behavior through on site presentations. In addition, the project recruits high school juniors and seniors to play the role of peer mentors for students who have experienced bullying. And finally, Beyond Bullies will offer a sophisticated website where students who have experiened in school or online bullying can find mentors and resources to help them process their experiences constructively.
Melissa Sherman directs Beyond Bullies. She has years of experience as a professional journalist and as a communications director for a number of nonprofit organizations. She has degrees in communication and communication for nonprofit organizations from San Francisco State University and UCLA. Melissa has a passion about helping LA high schools, and particularly high school students, overcome the culture of bullying so prevalent on many campuses.
Visions Made Viable served Beyond Bullies with short term fiscal sponsorship, consulting, and administrative services aimed at helping BB become a successful independent non profit. Beyond Bullies received its 501(c)3 designation in June 2011 and is now a fully independent nonprofit. We couldn't be happier to have made a contribution to their success.
